The Evolution of Family Physician

July 16, 2022

A good physician treats the disease, the great physician treats the patient who has the disease.

William Osler

Ain’t this proverb fits best for our Family Physicians!!!

Who is a family physician?

Family medicine physicians are trained to care for people of all ages — from birth through the end of life. They also have a broad compass of knowledge so they're suitable to look out for a wide range of symptoms affecting the body from head to toe. thus, a Family Physician is the best pick for families that want one place to go for all of their family members ’ healthcare needs. It is based on continuity of care and creates a long-term relationship between patients and doctors.

Role of family physicians in the health care system.

A doctor specializing in family medicines addresses all aspects of illness and provides safe and effective care for all family members. They practice a patient-centered approach and focus on preventive care and the holistic well-being of their patients.

Women As family Physicians

Medicine has traditionally been a veritably male-dominated profession. The days when women weren't permitted into the medical academy aren’t that far behind us and yet, in a fairly short period of time, female doctors have made hops and bounds in their unexampled benefactions to the medical field.

Hence, in celebration of the women who are making millions of lives longer and stronger, Dr. Vandana Boobna cannot be left behind. An active well-known member of the Indian Medical Association and Delhi Diabetic Forum she's a certified Family physician and internal medicine. She is the National secretory for AFPI (Academy of Family physicians of India). She has been serving the society for 22 years and still counting. She emphasizes treating patients from Birth to tomb. Not solely has she assisted her patients in their quick recovery, but inspires people not to succumb to the illness, but instead seize command of their lives. Dr, Vandana's expertise in family health care helps her patients in their entire journey of life.

As a panelist in an interview with women listed on ‘Family Doctor’s day, Dr.Vandana emphasizes the importance of having a family physician in difficult times like the Covid19 pandemic. She says- " family doctors not just know the history of their patients they build a relationship with their patients, they know their patient’s background ". Which not only helps in the early diagnosis of any chronic disease but catalyzes the treatment process too if ever required. “Blessed are the families with a good family physician with them’’.

You can visit her at MAX super specialty hospital Shalimar Bagh New Delhi and she also has her availability in her Clinic VIVA Pitampura New Delhi which has a group of doctors to take care of all your ailing needs. Also, you can connect with Dr. Boobna over her social media @drvandanaboobna

How Important are family physicians to every Family?

The concept of family medicine has evolved substantially to meet people's growing health requirements. The privatized healthcare system in India is expensive and civic-acquainted.

The cost of providing specialty care far outweighs the expense of primary care. In resource-scant countries like India, there formerly exists a deficit of physicians and healthcare infrastructure across the board; the absence of family medicine physicians further exacerbates the healthcare gap. By enforcing a well-conditioned network of family medicine practices, effective primordial and primary care could be delivered at low costs and consequently avert the need for specialty care, which is frequently too ultra-expensive.
