Young, Creative, Unapologetic: The Story of Nilfa Karmakar and Niyat Films

April 29, 2025

Most people wait to graduate before launching a business. Nilfa didn’t. At 20, while still studying architecture, she started Niyat Films—a bold move in a space dominated by older, louder, and usually male voices.

Today, her South Delhi-based creative agency is killing it with sharp videography, scroll-stopping photography, and digital content that brands can’t stop raving about. And yes, her team’s still young, still hungry, and very, very good at what they do.

From Studio Desk to Studio Lights

So, why does an architecture student dive headfirst into film and content creation?

For Nilfa, it wasn’t a pivot. It was a merger. Architecture taught her how to see space, balance, light, and story—all the things that make a shot not just pretty, but powerful. While her classmates were drafting elevations, she was sketching business plans.

Niyat Films was born in 2019, powered by that same design brain, creative grit, and a clear mission: help brands tell their stories visually—and do it really well.

What Makes Niyat Different?

Let’s get one thing straight: Niyat is not just a “content creation agency.” This is where design thinking meets film production, where storytelling isn’t just pretty visuals but purpose-driven messaging.

The edge? Nilfa’s trained eye. Her design background gives her a way of composing scenes that hit differently—clean, clever, on-brand.

She also leads with something most agencies overlook: empathy. “We immerse ourselves in our clients' businesses,” she says. “For that month of onboarding, we treat their brand like our own.”

That’s not marketing fluff. It’s the real reason Niyat’s long-term clients—like ICWF, one of India’s biggest event platforms—keep coming back, year after year.

How She Handles the Chaos (Because It’s Not All Glamorous)

Let’s not pretend running a creative agency is easy.

Event shoots are high-pressure. Client demands come in fast. Deadlines don’t wait. In the early days, Nilfa admits she’d spiral. But then she developed a power move: stepping away.

“Just 2-3 minutes,” she says. “Even in the middle of chaos. That pause saves me.”

She doesn’t look at big problems anymore—she breaks them down into smaller steps, handles them one at a time, and keeps moving. It’s calm in the chaos, and it’s worked.

Building Something Bigger Than Herself

Niyat Films isn’t just growing—it’s growing right. In the past year alone, they’ve seen a 170% jump in revenue, added four new jobs, and built a team that’s proudly 50% women.

That’s intentional. “I grew up watching my mom run a business and lead a family. I never thought women weren’t supposed to lead,” Nilfa says. “The world tried to tell me otherwise. I didn’t listen.”

She’s now using her platform to help others start. Enter the Content Creation Boot Camps—a genius idea where she teaches basic photography and video skills to small business owners. No fancy gear needed. Just a phone, curiosity, and hustle.

Sometimes she charges. Often, she doesn’t. The goal? Empower people who can’t yet afford pro services to get started—and then meet them again when they’re ready to go big.

Recognition and Real Talk

Her work’s been recognized in all the right places—Rising Star Award from IGDTUW, Most Promising Cinematographer from Unzoned Magazine, and a feature in Dainik Bhaskar. Most recently, on March 1, 2025, she took home the Women Listed Celebrating Excellence Award at India Habitat Centre, Delhi—a powerful nod to her influence in the creative industry.

But ask Nilfa what matters, and she’ll tell you about the message she got after ICWF 2024 in Jaipur.

Samit Garg, founder of E-Factor and a major name in event planning, dropped her a line:

“I look forward to working with you every year on this project.”

That’s what makes it real. Not trophies. Trust.

What’s Next?

Boot camps. Everywhere. Niyat’s planning to take their content creation sessions across Delhi and beyond. “We’ve seen how much impact a few hours of training can have,” Nilfa says. “If India’s going to be full of entrepreneurs, we need to arm them with content skills. This is how we contribute.”

For Nilfa, Niyat Films isn’t just about making content. It’s about making your story unforgettable.
