There's no doubt that Indian women have come a long way since 1947. These days, there are countless inspiring examples of Indian women who have made the country proud. Whether it's through their accomplishments in business or entrepreneurship, athletics or science, these women are role models for all Indians.   • PV Sindhu became the first Indian woman to claim two Olympic medals after she won a badminton bronze medal in Tokyo, adding to her silver from Rio Olympics 2016. The star shuttler’ s journey from ‘Silver Sindhu’ to ‘double Olympic medallist’ is definitely epochal for sportswomen in India.

 

  • Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the Chairperson and Managing Director of Biocon Limited, one of India’s leading biotechnology companies. A pioneer in the field, she has been instrumental in driving the growth of the Indian biotech industry. She was on the Financial Times 2011 top 50 women in business list. In 2019, she was listed as the 68th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes.She was named EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year 2020.

  • Chandigarh girl Harnaaz Sandhu made India proud when she won the Miss Universe crown after 21 years. The 21-year-old model is the third Indian woman to bring home the crown after Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen, who won in 2000 and 1994.

 

  • Mary Kom is, without doubt, one of the most fascinating athletes on the planet. Kom has won a medal at all eight AIBA World Boxing Championships since its inception in 2001 (six golds, a silver and a bronze, most recently in 2019), risen to no.1 in the AIBA world rankings for a flyweight, and competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal after being beaten by eventual champion Nicola Adams. She was also the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Asian games (2014) and at the commonwealth games (2018). 


 

  • Indira Jaising is a leading human rights lawyer who has fought For decades, she has been at the forefront of some of the most important legal cases in India, defending the rights of women, children, and minorities.  In 2018 she was ranked 20th in the list of 50 Greatest Leaders of the World by Fortune magazine. She was also the first woman to be appointed as Additional Solicitor General of India.
