Meet the Teacher-Turned-Homepreneur: How Srishti Vyas Left Her Job to Launch Her Own Boutique Store

July 2, 2025

At Women Listed, we’re on a mission to amplify the stories of women who are building something of their own—quietly, boldly, and relentlessly. Whether it’s a side hustle turned storefront or a passion project that fuels a bigger purpose, we believe these journeys deserve the spotlight. Today, we feature Srishti Vyas — an teacher-turned-entrepreneur whose love for traditional designs gave birth to Surkhab By SV, a boutique with a heart for slow fashion.

The Unexpected Fashion Entrepreneur: Breaking Career Stereotypes

Picture this: A dedicated teacher with 12 years of experience suddenly decides to become a fashion entrepreneur at 30+. Sounds risky? Absolutely. Worth it? Srishti's journey with Surkhab By SV proves it was the best decision she ever made.

“I’ve always loved art and craft,” Srishti recalls. “As a kid, playing dress-up wasn’t just fun—it was imaginative design.” But life steered her into education, and she gave it her all. “I never abandoned my creative side; it was always there in the background.”

The turning point came in 2022 after her marriage. With her husband's support and family backing, Srishti made the leap from educational institution to fashion studio. The result? Srishti opened Surkhab By SV in August 2024 a debut collection titled Mehfil, featuring 18 intricately designed traditional pieces.

What Makes Surkhab By SV Different: Fashion With Soul & Purpose

What makes Surkhab By SV stand out in a sea of fast fashion and copy-paste designs? It’s Srishti’s sharp eye for detail and unwavering commitment to authenticity. Her label is built on the pillars of slow fashion — think handwoven fabrics, comfortable fits, timeless silhouettes, and pieces that are meant to be cherished, not discarded.

The boutique offers an array of thoughtfully curated products: traditional wear, fusion wear for the modern wardrobe, breezy cord-sets, and charming accessories like parandis and traditional bags that complete the look.

“I want to create fashion that’s rooted in our culture but wearable for today,” she explains. “It’s not about trends—it’s about connection.”

Entrepreneurial Challenges: Building her Dreams with Hustle

Like many first-generation entrepreneurs, Srishti’s challenges were real and raw. No formal fashion degree. Limited industry contacts. Learning inventory management on the go.

“One of the hardest parts was working with kaarigars — getting them to understand the unique fits and finishes I wanted,” she says. Add to that the struggles of marketing, customer handling, and balancing newly married life with a business that demands 24/7 attention.

But Srishti didn’t flinch. Instead, she embraced the chaos with consistency. She’s promoting her label via social media, Meta ads, word-of-mouth, and good old-fashioned customer service — spending one-on-one time with every client to ensure satisfaction.

In just four months, she’s launched five collections, participated in two exhibitions, and added accessories to her line. She’s not just building a brand—she’s building a community.

The Bigger Picture

With Surkhab By SV, Srishti aims to create a luxurious yet affordable label that champions eco-conscious fashion. Her future vision includes more wearable designs, expansion through social collaborations, and embedding sustainability deeper into her supply chain.

Her advice to fellow women entrepreneurs? “Believe in your idea. Take criticism as fuel, and never stop learning. Even a short workshop can sharpen your skills. Most importantly, work with consistency—results follow passion.”

Closing Thoughts

Srishti Vyas represents the beating heart of India’s growing tribe of women entrepreneurs—those who may start small but dream big, with both feet planted firmly in their roots. Surkhab By SV isn’t just a fashion label. It’s a reminder that real style begins with real stories.

And that’s exactly what Women Listed stands for—spotlighting stories like Srishti’s to celebrate the power of women-led businesses and help them gain the recognition they deserve.
