Simran Khara: Transitioning From Corporate Leader To Eco-Entrepreneur With Koparo Clean

December 19, 2023

Who says the transformation from a corporate professional to an entrepreneur is tough? If you’re confident in your ideas and passionate enough to effect significant change in your surroundings, taking one strong step can make you an entrepreneur. Discover this truth through Simran’s journey as she shifted from corporate life to establish her eco-conscious cleaning brand “Koparo Clean.”

Shifting From Corporate To Eco-Entrepreneurship

With academic qualifications from prestigious universities, Simran Khara initiated her professional journey at McKinsey & Company, Hotstar, and Star TV, with more than 17 years of valuable expertise in her field. Then, she was the CEO of Juggernaut Books, a digital media startup facilitating self-publishing for writers and offering affordable, high-quality books to readers. But with the onset of COVID-19, Simran experienced a significant shift in her life’s direction and priorities.

Unveiling Chemical Cleaner Concerns

When COVID happened, it brought plenty of challenges for everybody but also gave families the gift of time to bond. Simran seized this opportunity to spend quality time with her husband and 4-year-old child, participating in various activities such as making sandwiches, cultivating kitchen herbs, and particularly maintaining a clean, germ-free home. As a mother, she wanted to create a clean and healthy environment for her kid to live in, so she and her husband wholeheartedly focused on maintaining a hygienic household.

However, while engaged in household cleaning, Simran made a concerning discovery about the harmful effects of the chemical cleaners she was using. She found that these cleaners contained substances such as amine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), synthetic dyes, and ammonia, which can accumulate toxins in her home and may cause various chronic skin and respiratory issues, including cancer, ADHD, fertility problems, and more. This alarming discovery terrified her and encouraged her to take measures to address the substantial need for home sanitation and personal hygiene.

Enter Koparo Clean: Revolutionizing Home Hygiene

In 2021, Simran launched “Koparo Clean,” a direct-to-consumer (D2C) brand in home & hygiene, aimed at promoting non-toxic and sustainable cleaners. Koparo Clean offers 100% vegan and PETA-certified home-care products that efficiently remove stains without harmful toxins. Its products are 95 to 99% biodegradable, and the bottles are fully recyclable. Crafted from powerful plant-based ingredients, these products are safe for kids and pets.

They are available on leading e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart, and they are present in 70 Reliance Retail and Modern Bazaar stores. Their Instagram page has a significant reach, boasting a community of over 55,000 followers. Koparo also states that its growth has multiplied ten times since securing a $750K funding round last year.

In 2023, Mira Kapoor partnered with “Koparo Clean,” envisioning the promotion of chemical-free cleaners and spreading the crucial message about clean living to a wider audience.

Simran’s story shows that a big change in life, fueled by passion and purpose, can lead to a powerful journey in entrepreneurship. Her desire for a cleaner, healthier life and commitment to protecting the environment inspire others who want to make a difference.
