From TV Screens to Pet Bowls: Palak Jain’s Unexpected Entrepreneurial Journey with Paws For Greens

March 26, 2025

For Palak Jain her career path was set – she was living her dream as an actor, with her name on casting calls and her face on television screen. But today, you'll find her in a completely different setting: formulating plant-based pet food recipes while her own furry companions, Donut and Muffin, eagerly await as taste-testers. Palak Jain, founder of Paws For Greens, wasn’t looking to chase entrepreneurship but it found her!

When Love for Pets Sparks Revolution

It all began with a disturbing discovery by a devoted pet parent. Looking for the best nutrition for her dogs, Palak faced a troubling realization: the pet food industry, though built on love for animals, was thriving on animal suffering. “The more I learned about what goes into conventional pet food, the more I realized there was no option that aligned with my values. She recalls that it was either compromise my ethics or my dogs' health,” she recalls.

Palak went to the market searching for nutritious, ethical food alternatives, only to return disappointed with the results. “I scoured the market, searching for an ethical, plant-based alternative that I could trust, but there was nothing,” she shares. “That's when I knew – if it didn't exist, I had to create it.” And just like that, Paws For Greens was born.

Paws For Greens: Born from Necessity, Built with Passion

Launched in 2024, Paws For Greens offers high-quality, vegan, cruelty-free, plant-based dog food and treats made with human-grade ingredients. The product lineup includes a balanced adult dog food formula and a range of treats, with the peanut butter banana treats being a customer favorite. Their adult dog food retails at approximately ₹990 per kilogram, while treats like their popular peanut butter-banana variety are priced at ₹335 for a 100-gram pack.

What sets the brand apart is its unwavering commitment to creating 100% vegan food that is nutritionally complete and science-backed. Every ingredient is carefully selected to ensure complete and balanced nutrition, proving that dogs can thrive on a plant-based diet without compromising health or taste.

Battling the Industry Skepticism

Creating a plant-based pet food brand wasn’t just about creating the perfect recipe; it was about changing mindsets. And, the path hasn't been easy. “When I set out to create Paws For Greens, I wasn't just building a brand—I was challenging an entire industry,” Palak explains. “I faced skepticism from vets, suppliers, and even pet parents.”

Finding the right formulations, sourcing ethical ingredients, and maintaining high nutritional standards proved challenging, with many manufacturers dismissing her concept outright. But Palak refused to back down. She collaborated with experts, rigorously tested her formulations, and built her brand on transparency. Slowly, her persistence paid off.

In just four months, this woman-owned brand secured a significant milestone – a major order from Heads Up for Tails, one of India's largest pet care brands, validating their approach and expanding their reach. Another achievement for the brand has been the coverage it has received by many mainstream publications. Most recently, Palak Jain also won the Women Listed “Celebrating Excellence Awards” 2024, for the innovation she is bringing in the pet food industry.

Marketing with the Idea of Educating

Palak’s marketing strategy focuses heavily on education and community engagement. Through social media storytelling, expert collaborations, and campaigns like #LabelPadhegaIndia, which encourages pet parents to scrutinize ingredient labels, Paws For Greens is building trust as a plant-based pet nutrition brand.

The impact is already evident in customer testimonials. One pet parent reported remarkable improvements in their dog's health after switching to Paws For Greens when the dog suffered from severe allergies to traditional food. Another found their dog's appetite returned after losing interest in conventional kibble.

Future Plans of this Women-Led Brand

For this woman entrepreneur, launching Paws For Greens wasn't just entering a market – it is a movement redefining what it means to care for animals. With plans to expand their product range and retail presence, Palak aims to make Paws For Greens the most trusted vegan pet food brand in the market.

On a personal level, this dog parent remains committed to animal welfare beyond her business, regularly donating and feeding community dogs. She envisions eventually establishing an NGO or shelter dedicated to street animals.

Wisdom for Fellow Entrepreneurs

For aspiring women entrepreneurs, Jain offers powerful advice: “Break the boundaries. Stop living by a framework that doesn't define you. Stop worrying about what people will think or say. Women are emotionally resilient and powerful – when we decide to own our path, nothing can hold us back.”

Her journey embodies a quote that has guided her: "When the fear of the future becomes smaller than the pain of the present, that's where change happens."

Paws For Greens isn’t just a pet food brand; it’s a call to action for this passionate woman entrepreneur. It’s about choosing kindness over convenience, about questioning long-standing norms, and about creating a better world – one paw at a time!
